December 10 sports update

Stamps....well the playoffs were dissapointing, if the stamps had beat saskatchewan, they couldve won the cup. they lost becuase of a brutal first half and a bad penalty at the end of the game. oh well, they didnt deserve to win.
exciting offseason news though is that jon hufnagel is going to be the new head coach next year....my pick is calgary vs hamilton(haha crazy i know) for the 2008 cup...congrats to the riders who deserved to win the cup this year as a team, franchise and for the fans
as for the flames. they had a bad start to the year(along with kipper) but kipper appears to have turned it around with a superb game on sunday vs chicago(which i missed, but heard about). dont give up hope on our flames yet, they can still make the playoffs but need to play at least .600(maybe .700) hockey from here on in.
iginla also keeps on scoring, he is having yet another great year.
the hitmen are also doing great, leading the division
the roughnecks season starts in a few weeks too.
also the world juniors in hockey starts soon as well as the macs midget tournament....all in all, a busy time in sports, with nfl and nba going too

october sports update

Flames
better then usual start to the season for the flames as they are fighting for the division and continue to score like mad(except the last two 4-1 losses).
its early but iginla and langkow are playing great early on. the flames have 15 points after 16 games.
not coming as a suprise is the edmonton oilers who are in last place in the league at this point. columbus, st louis and l.a. are doing suprisingly well in the west along with carolina in the east. there are alot of new teams in the top 8s but the first 20 games doesnt give a good read on how good the team are.
stampeders
Finally the playoffs are here!! the last 3 games have been essentially meaningless but still entertaining at least. the stamps blew it tonight in bc 25-24 but easily couldve won with numerious backup players in. sankey looked great at qb throwing 3 qbs and over 300 yards. some bad calls by the refs and lacklustre coaching/defensive play hurt them.the riders got thier butts kicked today by toronto, who i could see easily winning the east final.
the stamps play the riders at mosaic stadium in regina on sunday the 11th at about 2pm. the winner plays the west champion lions in bc the next sunday. winnipeg at home vs montreal in the east with the winner heading to toronto
playoff prediction: calgary vs toronto in the grey cup
in other calgary sports the hitmen won tonight 4-1 and continue to battle for the lead in the division.
the u of c dinos football team got embarrased by the manitoba bisons in the playoffs 27-5 in winnipeg.
the nll almost cancelled its season but it will go on in january=good news for the roughnecks
busy month in sports as the nfl kicked off and boston beat the cinderalla colorado rockies to win the world series 4-0.
the flames play in colorado tomorrow.

thanksgiving sports update

first off the flames
mcelhinney is hurt, so the flames have called up former junior star Matt Keetley from Quad City. he likely wont get any starting time, but it is definitly deserved with how he played in preseason as well as how he played in quad city.the flames start their tough 3 game road trip on wednesday in detroit.
the stamps
the stamps lost by 12 to saskatchewan yesterday but the defence played better after the firing of denny creehan. akili smith started the first half and couldnt produce ANYTHING in the half. in the second half sankey came in and on the first drive( a touchdown drive) he created more yards of offense then the entire first half for the stamps. they looked better in the second half and took less penalties. they are now 5 points back of sask but still 2 points ahead of edmonton with 4 games left...and the big news.....Henry Burris is likely to start against winnipeg this weekend.
the hitmen are now 9-1 and still #1 in the country

calgary sports update september 30 2007

stamps:
wow, brutal defence tonight. didnt play with any emotion, its no wonder this team is the worst for giving up points...they got out played by bc and had absolutly NO answer to joe smith. as for offence, akili smith got hurt and nealy didnt look bad considering he probably had no reps this week. oh the stamps lost 42-9. they need to do something, last place hamilton played way better in all facets of thier game then the stamps did tonight against bc. they are now 6-6-1 but still one point behind saskatchewan, who they play next week. luckily edmontons qb(maas) is hurt too, so we may sneak into the playoffs. i wouldnt mind if they overhauled the defence and d coach creehan
midseason grey cup pick....sask vs toronto
flames:
well the preaseason is over, finally. the flames finished 1-4-3. should be an interesting season with keenan behind the bench and new players on defence. calgary has the lineup that can win the division, depending on the reaction to keenan. im picking calgary to finish 4th or 5th in the west with colorado winning the division.
stanley cup?calgary over new york. (always pick calgary haha)or san jose vs pittburg
flames start the season vs phili on thursday
hitmen:
the best team in calgary right now. they are off to a 5-0 start and are #1 in CANADA...definitly have a chance to win the memorial cup this year..go hitmen

this means the flames have enough left to sign another few players, word is that gelinas may come back as a 4th line mentor role(much like lowry did in 04)
i see the flames battling with colorado for the division, these are my july predictions for the west conf.
so something like this:
1. anahaim
2. detroit
3. colorado
4. san jose
5. Calgary
6.vancouver
7. st. louis
8. nashville
9. dallas
10. chicago
11.los angeles
12. minnesota
13. columbus
14. pheonix
15. edmonton
(who will score for this team???)
just a note - the oilers lost there 3 top scorers again this year(smyth, lupul and sykora) and thier captain - smith
as for the cfl, the stamps beat up hamilton on saturday and will visit saskatchewan this week.
here are my pics for the cfl
west
1. bc(still an amazing team)
2. calgary(burris learns how to run)
3. saskatchewan(...third again)
4. edmonton(not as good as the other strong west teams)
east
1. winnipeg(only team in the east that doesnt seem to have qb issues so far)
2. hamilton( the backup timmy chang will be starter by the end)
3. toronto( allen is done)
4. montreal(calvillo is still good, the team and offensive system isnt)
the roughnecks have not made any major changes and the calgary dawgs are in first in the NBL. thats it for calgary sports
go stamps and go flames
